Life as a member of the compliance team in probation is a diverse and challenging role to be in. No two days are the same and that’s what makes it interesting. You will receive queries regularly that nobody has asked you before, meaning you are constantly learning and improving your knowledge base.
You will be required to confidently give advice on complex subject areas and share legal advice or interpretations to Area Managers and the Senior Leadership Team.
Working in compliance involves a mix of tasks to ensure an individual’s personal data is protected. You will deliver data protection training to all staff to ensure they are aware of their data protection responsibilities and adhere to good records management.
You will support the administrative functions of Content Manager (CM), PBNI's Electronic Document and Records Management System that holds corporate records and provide vital training on CM to new staff joining the organisation.
You will have a critical role in handling data breaches, this includes investigating a data incident, determining the severity and impact of the incident, and ensuring timely notifications to relevant and affected individuals, including the ICO. You will also be required to deal with Subject Access Requests and Freedom of Information Requests, ensuring relevant exemptions are applied and statutory deadlines are met.
You will provide guidance on conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments which are essential for assessing and mitigating potential data protection risks associated with new projects or changes to existing processes in probation. You will also assist in completing data sharing contracts between PBNI and other organisations.
You will support investigations into complaints about PBNI service and ensure they are addressed fairly. Working as part of the compliance team you will support staff by providing advice and guidance on all data protection matters to ensure the organisation is compliant with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).
