Justice Minister Naomi Long announced on 16 February the appointment of Bria Mongan OBE as Probation Board for Northern Ireland Deputy Chair.

Announcing the appointment, Naomi Long said, “I would like to welcome Bria to the role of PBNI Deputy Chair. Her expertise and experience will in no doubt contribute to PBNI’s crucial role in reducing reoffending, rehabilitation and reintegrating individuals into the community, helping make communities safer. I wish her well in the role.”
Board Chair Glenn Houston said, “I would like to congratulate Bria on her appointment as Deputy Chair of the Probation Board. This appointment completes the profile of the new Board. I look forward to working alongside Bria to continue strengthening the delivery of high-quality probation services.”
The current Board was appointed following an open competition regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland and the term of office for the Board commenced on the 1 March 2025 for a three-year period. The current constitution of the Board consists of a Board Chair and 11 other Board members. Dr Payne will become the 12th Board member, and his appointment will tie in with the current constitution period for the Board.
