The third annual probation seminar took place on 15 March 2018 at the Long Gallery in Stormont Parliament Buildings, Belfast. The seminar theme was entitled ‘Justice in Transition’ and provided the opportunity to reflect on how probation contributes to the current transition towards a problem solving approach to justice.  The seminars not only build awareness and confidence in the role of probation but also stimulate new thinking, new policy developments, innovation and collaborative working across the criminal justice system.  This year’s keynote speaker was Judge Gregory Jackson who was first appointed on to the District of Columbia Superior Court in 2005 by President George W. Bush. Vilma Patterson, Chairman of Probation and Cheryl Lamont, Chief Executive of Probation both gave speeches at the event and other speakers included Permanent Secretary of the Department of Justice Nick Perry and Professor Mary Rogan from Trinity College Dublin.
