Three year Plan and new look for Probation

Three year Plan and new look for Probation
The Probation Board for Northern Ireland (PBNI), has launched its Corporate Plan 2005-2008 incorporating Business Plan 2005-2006, unveiled its new logo and showcased some PBNI facilities in Belfast.
PBNI is tasked with the statutory supervision of offenders in the community, many of whom pose a high level of risk to society.  A key function of the Board is to assess and manage the risk posed by such offenders.
PBNI works daily with offenders who cause genuine public concern.  Such offenders need to be placed in a stable situation where their movements and actions can be monitored, and where they can be required to work with appropriate agencies and treatment providers.
Probation Board Chief Executive, Noel Rooney; ‘There is emerging evidence that reducing re-conviction rates is achieved through the community supervision of offenders.  PBNI will work to realise this potential and both the Corporate and Business Plans reflect this in the first core strategic area – Public Protection.’
Chairman of the Probation Board, Ronnie Spence CB; ‘The Corporate Plan sets a demanding agenda for the next three years.  PBNI’s public consultation process  demonstrates the continuing strength of the Probation Board as an organisation closely linked to and aligned with local communities across Northern Ireland and we will continue to drive this dialogue and make a significant contribution to reducing reconviction and increasing public confidence.’
